The Health and Safety Executive has identified that work-related musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs), including manual handling injuries, are the most common type of occupational ill health in the UK.
It is the employer’s responsibility to assess the risk of MSD injuries in the workplace and to try to reduce and avoid the need for hazardous manual handling so far as reasonably practicable.
